Welcome to The Ohio State
Shotokan Karate Club!

Autumn 2021 Training
The Shotokan Karate Club at the Ohio State University has returned to in-person training! This last year and a half has been a major obstacle for many of us, and we are all very excited about returning to training in the dojo. Keep a close eye on the training times and locations, and make sure to follow us on social media, as some of the training times/locations are still subject to change.
With that said we are excited to meet a new group of karate-ka and welcome back some of the old faces.

Contact us at [email protected] or join us on Facebook or Instagram for more updates!

Who Are We?
We are a group of martial artists learning Shotokan Karate - a traditional style of karate that focuses on powerful movements and low stances. Shotokan is an excellent form of self defense that is a blend of two traditional schools of Okinawan karate: Shorin, characterized by light, flexible movements, and Shorei, emphasizing strength in movement. The result is fast, powerful movements with an emphasis on good form and equal usage of foot and hand techniques. One of the results of daily karate practice is a strong, healthy body and the knowledge of how to protect yourself in a variety of situations. As an official ISKF (International Shotokan Karate Federation) club, we have access to high level instruction, competition, and ranking recognized throughout the nation and in over 40 member countries.

As a club we welcome any individual who would like to try martial arts, regardless of style, organization, or background. This includes students, faculty, staff,  and non-students who reside in the Columbus area

Club Activity - Summer 2021

Kensho Karatefest Camp

A few of the club members joined groups of karate-ka from around the area for a weekend of training in July. Adam Clouser taught one of the weekend sessions on preparing for training and being a good student.

COVID Trainings

Although the COVID19 pandemic kept the club from training in person, more than 100 sessions of online training took place during 2020, led by a variety of instructors, both from the club and guest instructors from clubs further away.

The Shotokan Karate Club is a proud member of the International Shotokan Karate Federation. Founded in 1965 by Sesnsei Greer Golden, we operate under the guidance of the Mid-America Region.
